You’ve been dancing in my mind
As if you’re trying to find
A way to invade every part of me,
Every single space that is still free,
Every centimeter of my skin
Who I am and where I’ve been.
Can you find your way in the dark?
Can you possibly erase the mark
left by those who came before
those who began this terrible war
inside my cold cold heart…
“We live, as we dream–alone. . . .”
Joseph Conrad (Heart of Darkness)
Lau: When I read Joseph Conrad for the first time I was so young that I didn’t appreciate it. When I was 18 I read “H of D” again and I found it so full of meaning and symbolism and I loved his views on the dark heart of human-kind; and how he implies that man is inherently evil and that this evil is only masked by culture and civilization… It was different than anything I’d ever read…
Glad I can share these thoughts avec toi.
have you read the poem of TS Eliot “Hollow men” ? Eliot wrote it after having read Conrad.
ps: thank you for your hopeful comment…
Yes I know it very well, didn’t know Conrad inspired it… A part of it is very famous in the U.S. as a children’s play song:
Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o’clock in the morning.
Thanks for sharing, I will definitely go back and re-read it and see if I can see the inspiration…
Merci Lau!
yes, I remember the song.
And there is a hidden reference in your profile too: “THIS WORLD WILL BE SHAKEN BY A WHISPER”
Yes, not in a “bang”, but in a “whisper”.
Merci à toi, Lali.
“This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.”
would be more precise. My memory is too bad sometimes.
Lau: !!!!!!!!!! You’ve made the connection! Lali to TS Elliot! Tres fantastique. The matrix is open.
)
Ayyyy Lau, tu m’as faite sourire…
I will drown myself in the matrix one day! Real time world sucks these times.
